Wayanad  is located on the high altitudes of Western Ghats in Kerala- God’s own country. The altitude ranges from 700 meters to 2300 meters. The highest point being Chembra peak.  The mist capped mountain tops will mesmerize you. As it is a mountainous region, it has beautiful mountain ranges to the west that presents a mesmerizing sight with tea gardens that forms a thick green velvety blanket on the rolling hills. During winter the mountains are covered with mist that clears on the sunrise and presents a beautiful sight.

Wayanad weather

The weather is tropical monsoon type that receives rainfall both during South west monsoon and North East monsoon. The South west monsoon is more vigorous. The temperature reaches to a maximum of 29 degree Celsius is summer and reaches a low of 10 degree Celsius in winter.

Best time to visit

As it is a mountainous region, the best time to visit is  just after monsoon rains that is from October. The weather is cool and pleasant during winters and the place can be visited till May. The water falls would present a mesmerizing sight during monsoons. The Wildlife sanctuaries would start  operating after monsoon.The winter months are also good with cool weather  that would be ideal for moving around for sightseeing after monsoon.

How to reach

Kalpetta is the district headquarters of Wayanad. It does not have a railway connectivity/airport.

Wayanad is well connected by road.

By road-  It is 275 km from Bangalore,  120 km from Mysore, 120 km from Ooty  and  70 km from Calicut
By flight- The nearest airport is in Calicut/Koziklode.
