St Mary’s Island is a group of four small Islands-Coconut Island, North Island, South Island and Darya Bahadurgarh Island- in the Arabian sea off the coast of Malpe near Udupi. All the four islands are interconnected.  It is famous for the Columnar Rhyolitic lava.

The island covers an area of 1640 feet in length and 300 feet in width.

There is no habitation, restaurants or coffee shops on the island.

Scientific findings have indicated that the rock formations found here match that of Madagascar in Africa.

How to reach St Mary’s Island

By Air- Mangalore International Airport is the nearest airport

By train-Udupi is the nearest railway station on Konkan railway
By road- The island  can be reached by boat only.
By ferry-The only way to reach the Island is by a boat from  Malpe beach that is 5 km from Udupi the temple town. The distance from Malpe beach to the Island is 6 km.

Ferry timings

9.30 am to 5 pm with an interval of half an hour.

Weather in St Mary’s Island

The weather is of tropical and it is very hot during the months of summer between April to June. It receives heavy rains during monsoon months between July and September.

Best time to visit St Mary’s Island

The post monsoon months from October to March is the best time to visit  as the weather is pleasant to enjoy the Island.

Avoid monsoon months,
