Ooty is the anglicized name for Udagamandalam the most amazing hill station in the Nilgiris district of Tamilnadu state in India. It is known as Queen of hill stations. This was once the summer getaway for the British rules of India. It is the most preferred tourist destination even today. The cool climate, picturesque locations, is ideal to relax and rewind. Ooty is nestled in the Nilgiris-Blue Mountain- at an altitude of 7,350 feet with breathtaking scenery around. The old world colonial architecture, the simplicity of the locals, the serpentine roads ideal to take a walk makes Ooty one of the most ideal tourist destinations.

The weather is consistent throughout the year. The average maximum temperature ranges between 17’C to 20’C and the average minimum temperature between 5’C to 12’C. The night temperatures during the winter months of January and February are extremely cold. It has even reached a lowest temperature of -2’C.

How to reach Ooty

It is well connected by road with Bangalore, Mysore, Coimbatore and Calicut/Kozikode. Ooty does not have an airport. The nearest airport is in Coimbatore at a distance of 85 km

By road-  It is 275 km from Bangalore, 127 km from Mysore, 85 km from  Coimbatore to Ooty is 85 km and 160 km from Kozikode/Calicut
By rail- There is a narrow gauge railway station connecting to Mettupalayam. You can reach Mettupalayam from Coimbatore to take the narrow gauge train.
By flight- Coimbatore airport is the nearest airport at a distance of 88 km

Best time to visit Ooty

The best time to visit is between February and June as the weather is cool and pleasant for sightseeing. The annual flower show in Botanical garden is a must visit event.
