Mysore is the former capital of the kingdom of Mysore during the rule of Wodeyar Dynasty between 1399 and 1947. There was  a brief interval from 1760 to 1799 during which time it was ruled by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. Now it is one of the major districts of the state of Karnataka.

It is equally famous as an education center. It has major professional colleges. The first University of the Karnataka state was established during 1916.

The famous wildlife sanctuaries of Bandipur Tiger Reserve, Nagarahole wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka, Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary of Tamilnadu and Wayanad wildlife sanctuary of Kerala are  close by.

The famous Jain pilgrimage center Sravanabelagola is near by.

The stone carvings of Belur, Halebeedu and Somanathapur of Hoysala period ican be covered during the tour.  It is famous for the art and culture in this part of the Karnataka state. Hence it is popularly called as the Cultural capital of Karnataka. It is also famous for the majestic Mysore Palace, Chamundeshwari Temple, St Philomina Church and the Jaganmohana art Galeery. Brindavan gardens located about 22 km from Mysore is a popular tourist attraction.

The Brindavan gardens built in Krishnarajasagar dam and Kabini dam are close by.

Mysore weather

It enjoys a tropical weather. It has warm summers and cool winters. The average maximum temperature ranges between 34′-37’Celsius. The average minimum temperature ranges between 22’C-27’C.

Best time to visit Mysore

Mysore can be visited all through the year. The best time to visit is between July and April as the temperature would not be too high and it is pleasant to move around for sight seeing. The annual Dasara celebrations during Navaratri presents a festive look with the Elephant carrying a Golden Howdah with Goddess Chamundeshwari idol.  The winter months between November and March would be cool and pleasant to move around. The wildlife sanctuaries would be operational and animal sighting would be good.

By Road- It is 140 km from Bangalore.

By Air- The nearest airport is Bangalore International airport at a distance of 180 km.  it has an airport with flight connectivity to major cities.
