Murudeshwar  is a small town, 13 km from Bhatkal of Uttara Kannada district in the state of Karnataka. It lies on the shores of Arabian sea.The National Highway No 66 passes through Murudeshwar. It is both a pilgrimage center dedicated to Lord Shiva and a beautiful beach destination.

It is covered by the Arabian sea on three sides and magnificent Western Ghats on the East. Murudeshwar Fort, the second tallest statue of Lord Shiva and the beaches attract large crowd of tourists all the year round except the monsoon months.

The adventure activity of Scuba diving and snorkeling is conducted on the Netrani Island off the coast of Murudeshwar. If you want to engage yourself in the activity, it is advisable to visit between October to May.

How to reach Murudeshwar

By road- It is 470 km from Bangalore, 155 km from Mangalore and 102 km from Udupi.

By train- The Konkan railway line passes through Murudeshwar and it has a station. The train services connects to major cities like Mumbai, Mangalore and Kochi. A number of trains pass through daily.

By air- Mangalore international airport is the nearest at 155 km .

Murudeshwar experiences a hot and humid weather during the summer months from April to June. The average maximum temperature in summers will  be 35’C and the average minimum will be 24’C. The monsoon months from June to September receives heavy rainfall and the average maximum temperature will be 29’C with an average minimum of 24’C. The winter months from October to February will have an average maximum of 32’C and average minimum of 20’C.

Best time to visit Murudeshwar

The winter months between October and March is the best time to visit Murudeshwar. The climate will be cool and pleasant to travel for sightseeing. The major festival of Shivaratri that occurs during the months of February/March attracts huge crowds as Murudeshwar has a Lord Shiva temple.

If adventure is on your mind, go for Scuba diving and Snorkeling that is conducted in Netrani Island off the coast of Murudeshwar. it is advisable to visit between October and May.
