Kovalam is described as the groove of Coconut Trees. The village does full justice as you can find endless grove of Coconut Trees.

It gained attention when the regent Queen of Travancore Sethu Lakshmi Bai  constructed a palace here for herself. Later it gained popularity among the Hippies during 70’s. Now, it is a popular tourist destination in Kerala on account of the shallow waters and low tidal waves.

Kovalam in its 17 km coastline has three major beaches namely, the Lighthouse Beach that is more popular among the three, the Samudra Beach and the Hawa Beach in between the two other beaches is famous for sun bathing. Life guards appointed by the tourism department keeps a vigilant eye in all the beaches.

Kovalam is more famous for Ayurvedic treatments, massages,Yoga and meditation. The shopping includes spices, wooden statues and handicrafts.

Things to do

Surfing:  The waves are ideal for surfing. Surfing boards/body boards are available for hire.

Wooden boat ride: Go for a boat ride on the ocean in the local boats known as Catamaran.

By Road- It is  16 km from Tiruvanthapuram

By Train-The nearest railway station is Tiruvananthapuram central railway station at a distance of 16 km.

By Air-The nearest airport is Tiruvananthapuram International Airport at a distance of 10 km.

Best time to visit Kovalam

The winter season between November and February is the best time to visit.

You can visit in combination with your tour of Munnar and Alleppy.
