Horanadu is a famous pilgrimage center dedicated to goddess Annapoorneshwari. The location of temple is unique in the sense it is surrounded by dense forest, coffee plantations and tea gardens providing a green cover.  The temple is located on a scenic background on the banks of Bhadra river.

The presiding diety of the temple Annapoorneshwari literally means Anna is food and poorneshwari is the goddess. Free food is served three times for all those visiting the temple. It is believed that Agsthya Maharshi constructed the temple

The temple is in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka state.

How to reach Horanadu

Horandu is land locked and can be reached only by road.

By road-It is 320 km from Bangalore, 260 km from Mysore, 125 km from Mangalore, 120 km from Udupi, 70 km from Sringeri and 90 km from Chikmagalur.

By train- Udupi/Mangalore is the nearest rail head

By air- Mangalore International airport is the nearest.

Horanadu weather

As Hornadu is located in malenadu the highest rainfall area.  Hence, the monsoon months between June and September receives heavy rains. The  temperature in summer months from March to June is hot and winter months between October and March is cool and pleasant.

Best time to visit Horanadu

The winter months between October and March and before the onset of monsoon in the month of June is the best time to visit.

Temple timings

Darshan is allowed between,

Morning-6.30 to 9.00 am

Afternoon-11.00 to 2.00 pm

Evening- 7.00-9.30 pm

Maha aarathi  9.00-9.30 am,

Lunch       12.00-3.00 pm

There is no entry fee to the temple.

Horanadu is best visited along with Sringeri, Kalasa, Kukke Subramanya, Dharmasthala and Udupi.
