Hampi a renowned UNESCO heritage site in India is a ruined capital of the Vijayanagara Empire that was established during the 14th century. Vijayanagara empire was thriving and very wealthy kingdom. It was a prominent trading center that envied other kings like Bahamani rulers. Traders from Portugal and Persia were visiting Hampi regularly. Krishnadevaraya was the most popular king of the Vijayanagara Empire.
The glory of Vijayanagara Kingdom was destroyed by the Islamic Sultanate.

The ruins of Hampi are spread over an area of 30 square km.The UNESCO has maintained the site very well. Hampi is a backpackers delight. It is ideal to visit the various sites on foot or on bicycle.

How to reach Hampi

It is well connected by road and rail.

By road-  It is 345 km from Bangalore,  380 km from Hyderabad and 165 km from Hubli.
By train- Hospet is the nearest railway station at a distance of 12 km. You can arrive in Hospet/Hospete and take an auto rickshaw/cab/bus to reach Hampi
By flight- Hubli airport at a distance of 165 km is the nearest airport. Belagavi airport at a distance of 270 km is another airport that has regular flights to Bangalore and Mumbai.

Hampi weather

It experiences summer from April to June. The average maximum temperature during summer months would be 36’C and average minimum would be 26’C The average maximum temperature during monsoon months between July and October would be 29’C and the average minimum temperature would be 21’C. The average maximum temperature during winter months of November to March would be 30’C and the average minimum temperature would be 20’C.

Best time to visit Hampi

The winter months from November to March is the best time to visit as the temperature is cool and pleasant. The cultural extravaganza Hampi utsav an annual event is held in the month of February/March. This is the best time to  enjoy and witness the culture and customs of Vijayanagara empire.
