Agumbe

Agumbe more popularly known as the Cheerapunji of the South is a tiny village in Thirthahally taluk of Shimoga district in the state of Karnataka. It is very scenic with majestic mountain ranges of the Western Ghats with beautiful valleys and mesmerizing water falls.

It attracts a lot of tourists and nature lovers every year. Being located on the top of the mountain ranges on one side and the Arabian sea near by on the other, it receives heavy rainfall during monsoon months. The average rainfall during the year crosses 2650 mm. It is second only to Cheerapunji that receives heavy rainfall every year. Hence Agumbe is aptly known as the Cheerapunji of the South.

Being in the mountain ranges and close to the coast, Agumbe experiences cool and pleasant climate throughout the year. The summer months from March to June is very hot and humid. The temperature ranges between 32-35 ‘C. The winter months between November and February is cool and pleasant with temperature ranging between 15’C and 18’C. The monsoon months between June and September receives heavy rainfall with lot of humidity.

Best time to visit Agumbe

The months after monsoon from October to March is the best time to visit. Immediately after monsoon, the water falls-many of them- presents a mesmerizing sight with water cascading from great heights with deafening sound.

Being located on the Western Ghats Agumbe has beautiful valleys and water falls. The famous water falls being Barkana water falls, Koodlu Theertha water falls, Jogi Gundi falls and Onake Abbi water falls.
