Agra is famous for the Taj Mahal, the epitome of love

Agra has a special mention in the history of India. It is ruled by various dynasties since the 11th century. Starting from Muhamud of Gazni, a number of rulers have shifted the capital between Agra and Delhi. In 1504 the capital was shifted from Delhi to Agra by Sikandar Lodhi who is said to be the founder of Agra.

The Mughal rule was started in India by Babur in 1526 by defeating Ibrahim Lodi son of Sikandar Lodi. It remained the capital between 1556 and 1648 during the rule of Akbar, Jehangir.  Shah Jahan  shifted the capital back to Delhi.

It was during the Mughal rule that many monuments, unique buildings, and the famous Taj Mahal were constructed. The Taj Mahal along with Fatehpur Sikri and Agra Fort  are declared as heritage sites by UNESCO.

It is a famous tourist circuit-Golden Triangle- along with Delhi and Jaipur.

It is well connected by road, rail and air.

By road- It is 215  km from New Delhi, 240 km from Jaipur,

By rail- A number long distance trains from major cities of India pass through Agra.
