Chikmagalur-Bababudan Giri

Chikmagalur enjoys a cool and pleasant climate throughout the year. The months from July to September receive heavy rains. The mountain ranges surrounding the town get misty with clouds forming beautiful layers at the mountain peaks presenting a mesmerizing sight.

Chikmagalur will be at its best between October and June. Especially, in October, just after the monsoon rains recede, the waterfalls on the mountains come alive with deafening sounds and the rivers start flowing to their brim.

Chikmagalur-Jhari falls

Jhari waterfalls is located at a distance of 12 km from Chikmagalur town in a place called Attigundi. Locally, the waterfalls are popular as Butter Milk falls. It is the most sought-after weekend getaway among locals. It is also popular among tourists visiting from Bangalore and Mangalore. The dense forest surrounding the falls presents a serene environment. A pool is formed at the bottom of the waterfalls where the tourists swim and play to get relaxed and rejuvenated.

Best time to visit Jhari water falls is post monsoon months from September on wards. However as the winter starts the water level comes down.

Chikmagalur-Hebbe water falls

Hebbe waterfalls is the most picturesque one located in the Kemmannugundi Hill station, the summer retreat of the erstwhile rulers of Mysore. In the Hebbe falls, water drops from a height of 550 feet. The water falls comprises two divisions-Dodda Hebbe -the bigger Hebbe and the Chikka Hebbe-the smaller Hebbe.

Hebbe water falls can be reached either by trek or a 4×4 jeep.

Chikmagalur-Kallatthi (Kallathagiri) water falls

Kallathi waterfalls is a magnificent fall located at a distance of 10 km from Kemmannugundi Hill station It is 50 km from Chikmagalur town. This is an ideal destination both for leisure and adventure. The water-dropping down from a height of 400 feet cascading on the rocks, presents a mesmerizing sight.

The waterfall is also a popular religious shrine with the Veerabhadreshwara temple at the bottom of the waterfall. The place is also known for the soft trekking trail where one can go up the waterfall.

Chikmagalur is also known for the wildlife sanctury.

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary

Being surrounded by deciduous forests, Chikmagalur is home to Tigers, Leopards, Asian Elephants, Spotted Deer, and Bison. The Government has created Bhadra wildlife sanctuary, under the project Tiger program comprising two divisions in Tarikere taluk The bigger one is in Lakkavalli and the smaller one is to the East of Bababudangiri.

The best time to visit the wildlife sanctuary is between October and May.

You can go on a safari inside the forest between 6.00 am to 9.00 am and between 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm.
